About South Wood Timber

There has been a Timber Yard within South Wood, Great Totham for many, many years. Formally part of the DeCrespigny Estate the Timber Yard originally processed timber which had been harvested from South Wood. Sweet Chestnut continues to be coppiced for Stakes, Palings & Firewood, however the previous owner who purchased South Wood including the Timber Yard during the early eighties diversified into the sale of Pressure Treated Sawn, Machined Timber & Fencing as demand for Woodland Timber declined.

Gower Brothers Ltd acquired the Timber Yard in May 2012 and although our aspirations are to improve the business we do not wish to destroy the ambiance of the area which is situated within an Oak Tree plantation, originally part of South Wood. Gower Brothers Ltd is a local family orientated business with Sam & Jack Gower operating the Timber business on a day to day basis.

Our Experience

Both Sam & Jack are qualified Carpenters having attended Colchester Institute and worked for local construction companies prior to Gower Bros Ltd. We can therefore offer valuable professional advice regarding Timber & Timber Products to our customers. Moving forward we plan to increase the Timber range held in stock together with amount of Timber Products which we construct on site.

With regard to Timber Products we do not intend to try and compete with the large DIY chains or Garden Centres and their mass produced product, but to offer a quality personal service producing a quality product from Nest Boxes to Stables based on what the customer needs, not what we think they should have, so bring your ideas, drawings, designs & pictures to South Wood and we will provide a quotation.
